Deputy Sheriff

The Guilford County Sheriff's Office protects it's citizens more efficiently by having three district substations that consist of patrol officers and criminal investigators readily accessible to the public. District One is in the Northwest area, District 2 in the Eastern area and District 3 in the Southwest area of Guilford County. Other divisions of the Guilford County Sheriff's Office include Legal Process, Transportation, Courtroom Services and Special Operations Divisions.


  • Be a citizen of the United States.
  • Be 21 years of age at the time of application.
  • Be a resident of Guilford County, or one of the contiguous counties (Rockingham, Alamance, Randolph, Davidson, Stokes and Forsyth).
  • Be able to perform all of the essential job functions of an inexperienced officer, unassisted, and at pace and level of performance consistent with the actual job performance requirements.
  • Minimum Education: High School Graduate or G.E.D.
  • Candidate must be able to pass a drug test and a complete medical examination by a licensed physician, including psychological testing and evaluation. Weight must be in proportion to height.
  • Successful candidate must be able to pass a comprehensive background investigation by the Sheriff's Office, which includes fingerprints and photgraph. Candidate must be of good moral character and must not have been convicted of a felony or a serious misdemeanor by a local, state, federal, or military court.
  • This office will obtain a credit history. Applicants must not currently be in bankruptcy or have unpaid past due accounts or judgements.
    Candidate must possess or be eligible to receive a valid North Carolina driver's license.

Additional Incentives

  • Applicants with prior military service who have earned an associate or Bachelor Degree will receive an increase for education or active military service.
  • Fluent in Spanish - 5% increase
  • Prior Military Service - 1% increase per year for up to 10 years active service
  • Prior Law Enforcement Service - 1% increase per year for up to 10 years active service
  • Holiday Pay for Rotational Schedule - Approximately $2,000 per year
