School Weapons Offense

Sheriff BJ Barnes with the Guilford County Sheriff’s office reports that Northeast Guilford High School, located at 6700 McLeansville Rd, McLeansville, NC was the victim of a small explosive device that had detonated in the trashcan in the cafeteria area on Friday afternoon, approximately 1320 hrs on January 4, 2008.
After an extensive investigation by school administration and the Sheriff’s Office, it was discovered that an additional device had been exploded at approximately 1550 hrs outside on the school grounds the prior day by the same perpetrator. The devices were made of common substances that caused a chemical chain reaction.
Zwick Alexander Shaw, W/M, dob 03/26/1991, of 7679 NC 61 N, Browns Summit, was charged with two counts of possession of a weapon of mass destruction and one count of malicious damage of occupied property by use of explosive or incendiary. He was printed and released on 1/7/2009 and the school imposed long-term suspension.
Investigation is continuing to determine if additional students aided or counseled in the explosions on school property.
