Kidnapping Suspect: UPDATE

UPDATE: September 23

Guilford County Sheriff BJ Barnes reports the unfortunate ending to the kidnapping case taken place on Sunday, September 18th, 2011. At approximately 6:45 am, Bradley Key, boyfriend of Jennifer Andrews and father of her two children entered their residence garnishing a shot gun. Ms. Andrews had a 50B on Bradley Key ordering him to stay away. Key reportedly took Ms. Andrews and one of their daughters at gunpoint from the residence. Several hours later Bradley Key released the victims and they returned home safely.

Guilford County Sheriff’s Deputies drew two second degree kidnapping warrants on Key and had been searching from the beginning of the offense. Key was spotted on several occasions, armed, but he was able to elude officers. On September 22, 2011, shortly after 1pm, officers spotted Key in the wood line. Officers formed a perimeter and began searching. Greensboro Police Dept. assisted along with SHP sending a helicopter. The subject was later cornered in a wooded area near the dead-end of Desmond road at approximately 4:15 pm. The subject was contained but held a shotgun on himself. Officers and negotiators tried to talk the subject into giving up. When night began to fall officers utilized a distraction device along with a less than lethal weapon to try and take control of him and his weapon.

Once the distraction device was deployed the officers could not get to him and he turned the gun on himself and took his own life. Sheriff Barnes states that this is truly a sad situation for Bradley Key, his family, his children and friends. These type situations are also hard on the officers involved, they had to consider the suspect and the public safety in the action during this event.
