Sheriff BJ Barnes with the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office reports that a student at Sumner Elementary School, 1915 Harris Dr, Greensboro, NC was discovered to be in possession of a handgun. After information was received that the student, a 10-year-old male, was in possession of the gun, a search was conducted and the weapon was discovered in the student’s backpack. The weapon, a 22 semi-automatic handgun, was not loaded and no ammunition was found in the student’s possession. The investigation is continuing.

Sheriff BJ Barnes with the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office reports that Kaleb Sams Marshall, white male, date of birth 9/23/91 of 5116 Branson Davis Rd, Asheboro, NC was arrested at 9:58 AM, May 6, 2010.

On Monday, May 10, 2010, North Carolina Project Lifesaver Team will conduct “The Fallen Officer Memorial Ride 2010”. The ride will come into Greensboro around 4:30 pm and will be escorted by the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office and the Greensboro Police Department to the Governmental Plaza on Greene St where a 20 minute Flag Ceremony will take place to honor fallen Law Enforcement Officers from North Carolina.

Sheriff BJ Barnes reports on Saturday April 17, 2010, The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office along with the United States Marshals Service will conduct an operation to visit the residences of (276) sex offenders in Guilford County, including the cities of Greensboro and High Point. The verification will be conducted to confirm addresses, registry data, and to insure compliance with laws on where sex offenders can reside.
